Important Information on this Page

Please read through the following guidelines regarding Plan Review, Inspections, and Modifications before proceeding to your permit of interest below.  For burn permits, expired permit replacement, or permit extension, please proceed with one of the links to the right.

All plan review submissions are accepted electronically, through the submission link on this page. All inspections shall be scheduled through the CAFMA Administrative Office, Monday – Thursday from 7:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Affidavits are for 5 or fewer devices
A modification is for 6-10 devices
A full permit is required for 11 or more devices

PLAN REVIEW:

»  Plans submitted shall follow the requirements as set forth in the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) Fire Protection Standards 2018 edition.

»  Fire Protection System permits are valid for 180 days from the issuance of the permit and the approved set of plans.  Once a permit has expired due to not requesting an extension, a fee will apply to reinstate it.  Please see the “Permit Extension Form” link above if needed.

»  Special Event permits are valid for the duration listed on the permit.

»  Residential Sprinkler system requirements and a list of area subdivisions that require sprinklers regardless of square footage can be found HERE.

SPECIAL EVENT INSPECTIONS:

»  Special Event inspections involve an application and permit in one document found through a blue tile below.

»  Special Event inspections shall be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance of the inspection.

»  Special Event inspections that are cancelled less than 4 hours prior to a scheduled inspection will constitute a failed inspection.

»  Special Event inspections that fail to have a permittee in attendance shall constitute a failed inspection.

FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM INSPECTIONS:

»  Fire Protection System inspections shall be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance of the inspection.

»  Fire Protection System inspections requiring a hydrostatic test, shall be scheduled a minimum of 2 hours prior to the rough inspection or scheduled to be completed 2 hours after completion of the rough inspection.

»  Fire Protection System inspections that are cancelled less than 4 hours prior to a scheduled inspection will constitute a failed inspection.

»  Fire Protection System inspections that fail to have a permittee in attendance shall constitute a failed inspection.

MODIFICATIONS:

»  All modifications require the applicable Plan Submittal Information as outlined in the CAFMA Fire Protection Standards 2018 edition.

»  Commercial Sprinkler:  A modification is any work being done on 6-10 heads, or that substantially changes an existing commercial sprinkler system, or affects/changes the design area.

»  Residential Sprinkler:  A modification is any work that substantially changes an existing sprinkler system or which exceeds the CAFMA Residential Sprinkler limit of 5 heads or affects/changes the design area.

»  Fire Alarm: A modification is any work being done on 6-10 devices, or that substantially changes an existing fire alarm system.

»  Kitchen/Industrial System:  A modification is any work that substantially changes an existing kitchen/industrial system or which increases the existing system’s number of flow points or volume limitations.

AFFIDAVITS:

»  Commercial Fire Alarm:  An affidavit is required with any work that affects 5 devices or less and meets the requirements set forth in the Fire Alarm System Affidavit.

»  Commercial Fire Sprinkler: An affidavit is required with any work that affects 5 sprinkler heads or less and meets the requirements set forth in the Commercial Fire Sprinkler Affidavit.
