The Chino Valley Fire District was formed in 1961 as a volunteer Fire Department within the Town of Chino Valley. The original board and Fire Chief were all elected to their positions. Over the years, the agency grew to include the Town of Chino Valley, the community of Paulden, as well as portions of unincorporated Yavapai County.  In 1987, the District hired their first full-time employees, and in 1990 they hired their first full-time Fire Chief. The agency eventually grew to include three fully staffed fire stations. In June of 2014, the Chino Valley Fire District entered into a Joint Management agreement with the Central Yavapai Fire District. Under the terms of the agreement, the Chino Valley Fire Chief would serve as the Fire Chief for both agencies, and all other services above Battalion Chief would be shared between the two. The agency signed a Joint Powers Authority agreement with Central Yavapai in October of 2015.
