Minimum Qualifications at Time of Application Submission

$26.77 – $42.03 / Hour
$55,681- $87,422 / Annually
Starting Wage Dependent Upon Experience

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and maintain a driving record that supports
    the ability to operate an agency vehicle. Applicant must obtain a valid Arizona
    Driver’s License within six (6) months of employment.

PREFERRED

  • Fire Science classes from an accredited college, i.e. Fire Code, Fire Investigation, Fire Protection Systems, Building Construction for Fire Protection.
  • ICS 100 and ICS 200 Certifications.
  • Fire Instructor I and II or Public Education Instructor I and II.
  • Fire Inspector I Certification through International Code Council (must obtain within one (1) year of appointment).
  • Fire/Arson 1-4 through the International Association of Arson Investigators (must obtain within two (2) years of appointment); equivalent certifications will be considered.
  • National Fire Academy-Fire Inspection Principles (within two (2) years of appointment).
  • Arizona State Fire Marshal-Fire Inspector I and II (within two (2) years of appointment).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Plan review experience or classes, knowledge of defensible space practices, and technical math classes.
  • Current applicable Fire Code and related NFPA Standards.
  • Fire suppression practices.
  • Building design and construction practices.
  • Fire inspection, fire investigation, and fire prevention practices.
  • Educational methods related to presenting programs of fire and life safety instruction.
  • The basic science of fire behavior.

Applicants who meet the minimum requirements on their application will be notified via email that their application has been accepted. Candidates can expect the testing process to consist of an online assessment, an oral interview, and then a Fire Chief’s interview. Only the most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the interview process as determined by reviewing the applications. Specific dates and times for testing will be provided to those candidates after the application period has closed. The Fire Chief will make the final hiring decisions.
